Locomotives
Project Overview |
VRE has purchased 15 new locomotives,
out of an option for 20. The locomotives will be purchased from
Motive Power, Inc. Locomotive specifics include:
- MP36PH-3C
- diesel-electric locomotives
- separate diesel HEP reduces strain on the main engine for improved reliability
- increased fuel efficiency
As a result of obtaining new locomotives, we will be selling 11 of our older locomotives. For information on the sale of these locomotives, please visit the VRE Procurement section. |

| Funding |
VRE obtained funding for this project through federal formula funds, state grants and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) US Department of Transportation TIGER program. |

Expected Completion
The first locomotive is expected to arrive by July of 2010.
