Is your home a magnet for out-of-town guests who want to visit Washington? If so, and you are unable (or perhaps don't want) to chauffeur them to our capitol city's highlights, Virginia Railway Express (VRE) can deliver your visitors to Washington where they can chose among several established city tours. Perhaps the most notable of city tour providers is Gray Line Tours. This venerable sightseeing operator has been conducting tours of many of the world's cities for years. Gray Line Tours in Washington depart from Union Station, the terminus for VRE service from Manassas and Fredericksburg. Most tours leave between 7:30am and 8:30am, the exception being the bilingual tours and tours of the city of the city after dark. Gray Line conducts a wide variety of bus tours concentrating on various aspects of Washington's attractions. Call 301-386-8300 or visit the website Gray Line Tours for additional information and rates.
For a variation on the usual bus tour, consider DC DUCKS. This company utilizes the military amphibious DUKWS of World War II fame for a tour that operates on both land and in the Potomac River. Departing from Union Station, DC DUCKS roams along the Mall for a look at he various monuments and buildings before splashing into the Potomac River. Approximately 30 minutes of the 90 minute tour cruises down the river past National Airport before coming ashore and waddling back to Union Station.
