Ride Select Amtrak* Trains

Please note: VRE cross-honor service on weekends has been eliminated as of June 28, 2004

Amtrak cross honors VRE tickets on select Amtrak weekday trains. A valid VRE TLC, Monthly, Five Day or Ten-Trip ticket along with a Step-Up ticket must be presented to ride these select Amtrak trains on the Fredericksburg Line and the Manassas Line.

You must have signed your monthly ticket or validated your Ten-Trip ticket prior to riding an Amtrak train. Single-Ride tickets, Free Ride Certificates and promotional tickets will not be accepted by Amtrak, nor will VRE's "service guarantee" apply to trips taken on Amtrak trains.. If you do not have valid tickets, individuals will be charged the Amtrak full one-way fare, including any penalty for purchasing a ticket at a staffed station. Please note that Amtrak trains do not make all VRE station stops.

When making your plans, please check with Amtrak to find out if your preferred train has been sold out in advance. If Amtrak has sold out that train, VRE passengers may not be permitted to board. Changes in cost of Amtrak Step-Up ticket:

• Effective July 1, 2007, the cost of the Amtrak Step-Up ticket increases to $10.00.
  
  
• $2.00 Step-Up tickets purchased prior to July 1 will be honored in groups of five (5) until September 1, 2007, regardless of expiration date.


• Beginning September 1, Amtrak will only accept $10.00 Step-Up tickets along with a valid VRE TLC Pass, Monthly Pass, Five-Day Pass, or Ten-Ride ticket.
  


• Please note that between July 1 and September 1 Amtrak conductors are not in a position to accept less than five $2.00 tickets and the balance of the Step-Up fee in cash, check, or credit card.
  
  
• If you have less than five $2.00 step-up tickets remaining after July 1, VRE is happy to accept them as partial credit towards a $10.00 Step-Up. Simply mail your unused tickets, along with a check payable to VRE for the difference, and a completed copy of this Request Form to our offices.
