Holiday Schedule

VRE does not provide service on federal holidays. Holidays with no VRE service include:

New Year's Day
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Presidents' Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veteran's Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

Customers with VRE tickets who must travel on these days have some alternate transportation options available with their VRE ticket:

• Amtrak provides service on holidays. The Amtrak trains listed on our schedule will continue to honor VRE multi-ride tickets and Step-Up tickets on any holiday which falls on a weekday. Please Note: Amtrak may modify their schedules or trains may sell out for holidays. Contact Amtrak ahead of time to see if your desired train is running.


• PRTC OmniRide buses operate a holiday schedule to and from Washington, DC and northern Virginia Metro stations on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, Columbus Day, Veterans' Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving. Your VRE ticket is good for travel on PRTC OmniRide as long as you board or disembark from the bus at a VRE station. For more information on OmniRide, visit the OmniRide website.
  

"S" Schedule

On selected holidays, VRE will run on our "S" schedule. Only trains in our normal schedule marked with an "S" will operate. See our calendar for operating dates. In addition, the mid-day trains on the Manassas and Fredericksburg Lines will operate on days when the "S" schedule is operating.

"S" schedule days planned at this time:
The Day After Thanksgiving - Friday, November 27, 2009
Christmas Eve - Thursday, December 24, 2009
New Years Eve - Thursday, December 31, 2009

The "S" schedule may also be used in times of inclement weather or other service disruptions. Notification will be given through the website, Train Talk, and media outlets (see our snow page for details).
