Service Infomation
The Virginia Railway Express is a commuter rail service that operates Monday through Friday, from the Northern Virginia suburbs to Washington D.C. We primarily travel northbound in the morning, towards Washington, and southbound during the evening, towards Manassas (along I-66), and Fredericksburg (along I-95).
And, unlike other commuter services in large metropolitan areas, VRE stations do not have station attendants. So, we encourage everyone new to our service to read our New Rider's Guide, which is designed to help make your first trip with VRE a success. Haven't found all the information you need or have additional questions? No problem - we invite everyone to contact us.
From email to phone correnspondence, someone is available to assist you Monday
through Friday, 7am to 7pm on service days.
VRE does not operate service on weekends or federal holidays. For specific
dates, please consult the calendar page. Additionally,
on selected holidays, in times of inclement weather, or other service
disruptions, VRE will operate the "S" Schedule, which means that only the
trains designated with an "S" will run.
Along with our service, VRE riders may also commute using the Cross
Honor Agreement. which is a service that allows VRE riders to use the
Amtrak trains listed on our schedule as well as reverse flow MARC
trains.
