Modified Snow "S" Schedule

When the Weather is Frightful...
VRE is delightful!
When it snows, sleets, or ices, VRE and our host railroads are ready
to serve you. Depending on the amount of snow and ice VRE may operate
full schedule or a limited "S" schedule of operations.
When Will VRE Use the "S" Schedule?
If the amount of snow called for is 8" or less and NO ice is forecasted,
you can expect VRE to operate its regular schedule.
However, for reasons of safety and reliability, the "S" or
snow schedule may be operated when there is:
- an immediate forecast for severe icing, 8 inches or snow
- severe icy conditions or an accumulation of 8 inches or more of snow.
What Time will the Decision be Made to Use the "S" Schedule
?
For morning service, the decision to use the limited schedule will be
made prior to 4:30am EST. Afternoon decisions will be made prior to 2:00pm.
We do not plan to operate early dismissal trains. If a snow or "S" schedule
is employed for the morning trips then the snow schedule will be in effect
for the evening.
