Virginia Railway Express Provides Reliable Commuting Option During Metro SafeTrack Surges
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (February 10, 2017). – As the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) prepares to launch its latest rounds of SafeTrack surges, the Virginia Railway Express stands ready to provide reliable commuting options to the region’s workforce.
Over the course of the next two months, Metro will be conducting Surges #12 and #13, which will result in significant delays on the Blue, Yellow and Orange Lines in and out of Washington, DC during peak commuting hours. Metro expects extreme crowding and delays in each direction from downtown Washington, DC, through Arlington, Alexandria, Springfield and points west, and is encouraging riders to seek alternative forms of transportation.
VRE and Metro are co-located at the Franconia-Springfield, Alexandria-King Street, Crystal City, L’Enfant and Union Station stations, which provide multiple options and alternatives for commuters throughout the region and in the city center. Visit VRE’s website for travel route options during Safetrack Surges #12 and #13.
“Our goal at VRE is to get people where they need to be in a safe, reliable, and comfortable manner and we’re happy to welcome Metrorail’s Blue, Yellow and Orange line riders during the next rounds of Metro SafeTrack surges,” said VRE Chief Executive Officer Doug Allen. “We fully support Metro’s efforts during SafeTrack and are glad we are able to offer commuters a reliable option while this work is occurring in Northern Virginia.”
New VRE riders can prepare for their trips by downloading the VRE Mobile app. The app allows customers to plan their routes and purchase their tickets directly on their smartphones. For even more convenience and flexibility, they are also able to validate their tickets on the app and bypass the Ticket Vending Machines. Those who download the app can also set up and utilize Metro SmartBenefits for their fares.
