Trip Planner

Overview

Trip Planner Instructions

The VRE/Metro Transit Planner can plan a trip between any two VRE stations, between a VRE station and a Metro station, or between any two Metro stations. To plan a trip you will need to choose a departure station, a destination station, a day of the week, and a time of day to begin your trip.

Before selecting a Departure Station you must first select the correct transit map. To choose a VRE Departure Station, the VRE Transit Map must be displayed in your browser. To switch to the VRE Transit map, either click the "Show VRE Map" button on the Control Panel or click on the "Zoom out to VRE Map" magnifying glass. To switch back to the Washington D.C. Metro map, either click the "Show Metro Map" button on the Control Panel or click on the "Zoom in to Metro Map" magnigying glass.

Next select your Departure Station by clicking the mouse cursor directly on the map at the station's location. This will cause the station's name to appear in the "Departure Station" box of the Control Panel.

The Transit Planner will now ask for the Destination Station. If you are traveling from the VRE to the Metro or from the Metro to the VRE, then you will need to switch transit maps. To select your Destination Station click directly on the map at the station's location. This will cause the station's name to appear in the "Destination Station" box of the Control Panel.

The Transit Planner now needs to know your departure time. Selector boxes will appear in the Control Panel for choosing the "Day of the Week" and the "Time of Day" to begin your trip. First click on the "Day of the Week" chooser and scroll down to the correct day. Then click and scroll to select the correct Hour, Minute, and if the departure time is A.M. or P.M.

Finally, click the "Plan Your Trip" button on the Control Panel. The Transit Planner should now take a few seconds to check all possible schedules and then display a custom schedule between your Departure and Destination stations. The first trip shown will be the first trip leaving at or after your departure time. If there are more trips available through the rest of the day, then they will also be listed.
