Anyone who’s lived in the area for a while knows that Northern Virginia and the Washington D.C. region has some of the worst congestion in the U.S. OmniRide’s goal is to provide safe, reliable and flexible transportation options while helping to reduce congestion and pollution in the area. The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC), operating as OmniRide, provides a variety of mobility services in Prince William County, Stafford County, and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. PRTC also co-sponsors the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) in partnership with the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission.
COVID-19 has changed many aspects of our lives and created challenges for all residents and transit agencies across our region…and across the entire country. However, one thing that has not changed for the two organizations is our commitment to providing a variety of mobility options and getting our passengers to their destinations safely. Because both OmniRide and VRE are committed to the health and safety of our passengers and staff, we have implemented a stringent cleaning protocol – twice daily sanitizing with upgraded strength cleaning products, limiting the number of passengers at a time to help occupants minimize close contact, and even created a designated seating pattern to ensure social distancing.
OmniRide’s services meet the needs of those who need to travel locally and those who commute to Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. Services include:
- OmniRide Express and Metro Express commuter routes;
- OmniRide Local bus routes;
- OmniRide Ridesharing facilitates the formation and promotion of carpools and vanpools; and
- OmniRide Employer Services, which helps businesses to implement and expand commuter benefit programs; and
- OmniRide Access, a pilot paratransit program that provides door-to-door rides specifically for residents in Manassas and Manassas Park who are unable to use public transit due to disability.
OmniRide is honored to be able to partner with VRE to meet the travel needs of the region’s essential workers and for passengers making essential travel to employment, grocery stores, health care appointments, and more. Eventually the restrictions will be lifted, and we will begin to establish a new normal. Yet, many things will remain the same. You will still need a reliable way to travel. OmniRide and VRE will be ready to get you where you need to go when you’re ready to come back.

- Onboard Restrooms
We have received comments and complaints regarding water washing onto the tracks from our restroom cars. We feel it may be helpful to clarify what exactly is occurring when this happens.
- Standing Means Detraining (or, Please Don't Queue)
What we really want is to allow detraining passengers an easy exit, and since you can still stand just before your stop, you'll still manage to get off your train in a timely manner. However, if the conductor asks you to find a seat, please do so.
