Social Distancing Guidance 

Onboard the Trains

We're working to make social distancing onboard our trains as simple as possible. New graphics will soon guide riders to window seats in every other row. Passengers waiting for their station stop can stand on floor indicators to ensure proper distancing. 

Upper level seating will not be available in the cab car as our conductors frequently need to walk through that area. 

At the Stations

Throughout June, we will install platform graphics to support social distancing. Expect these graphics at your station soon and, as always, wait behind the yellow line.


Hand Sanitizer

We are installing dispensers of hand sanitizer on our trains and at the stations. Look for the dispensers on the platforms, in station waiting rooms, and near the priority seating on trains. Please visit the CDC.gov to learn more about hand hygiene


Return to Full Service

We are proud to carry passengers who are unable to telework during this time and will continue to look for ways to improve upon our already clean and safe service. VRE trains have always been cleaned daily, which was well above the industry norm, but now are cleaned after both morning and evening service. 

We thank our riders during this time for maintaining social distancing from both passengers and crew. To those of you who have been teleworking, we thank you for doing your part and look forward to welcoming you back. 

As ridership begins to grow, we will consider adding more trains in order to maintain social distancing. We continue to monitor guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and other federal and state agencies and will implement changes to our protocols and schedules as needed to further protect the health and safety of our passengers.
