VRE to Continue Partnership with Keolis

Keolis Rail Services Virginia, LLC, which has operated and maintained our trains for nearly a decade, will continue to do so for the near future. In early June, on the recommendation of the VRE Operations Board, our rail service’s parent commissions approved extending one contract and amending another to allow for the seamless continuation of train service between Central and Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia.

We are pleased to continue our relationship with Keolis. Their train crews and maintenance staff partner with us daily to ensure the safety, health and comfort of our passengers. We appreciate their commitment and dedication to our organization and those we serve. Read more.

VRE's Parent Commission Holds Moment of Reflection
At last week's Northern Virginia Transportation Commission's meeting, Chair Katie Cristol and Commissioners held a moment of reflection in recognition of the demonstrations for racial justice. Chair Cristol noted that "Systemic racism, and the opportunity to confront it, is present in every feature of our lives, including transportation." Video of the meeting, including the full statement from Chair Cristol and others, is available via the link below.

VRE's new safety video provides an overview of the first aid equipment on every VRE train, what to do in the event of an emergency, guidelines for staying safe near railroad tracks, and more. Watch the video to familiarize yourself with locations of passenger intercom units and emergency exits, remembering that even in an emergency, never to exit a train unless you are in immediate danger and have no other options.

We're now incorporating heat restrictions as a known factor into the schedule to help better set expectations for when you’ll set foot at your home station, which may be particularly helpful for those being picked up.
