This plan provides a framework for VRE system investments and initiatives VRE should pursue through 2050 to best meet regional travel needs.

VRE Congestion Relief ReportThis link opens a new window

This technical memorandum documents the congestion relieving contributions of the Virginia Railway Express operations in two northern Virginia travel corridors. Congestion reduction was examined in two cases: 1) estimating the effect on parallel Interstate mainlanes from the existing VRE service, and 2) estimating the effect on those mainlanes if VRE ridership were doubled.

Transit Development Plan

The Transit Development Plan (TDP) provides an overview of all major VRE projects and initiatives. It highlights VRE’s short-term priorities as well as aspirations and constraints for the longer term.

Transit Asset Management Plan

VRE's transit asset management program will not only meet Federal requirements, but will also allow VRE to improve operational efficiency, maintain assets in a State of Good Repair, and make data-driven decisions regarding improvements and capital expenditures.

System Plan 2040 (Previous System Plan)

The VRE Operations Board adopted the VRE System Plan at its January 2014 meeting. The plan provides a framework for VRE system investments and actions VRE should pursue through 2040 to best meet regional travel needs. The system investments and service expansion recommended in the System Plan will enable VRE to carry over 40,000 new weekday trips by 2040, more than double the 19,000 daily trips carried today.
