Maintainers are called on site to work on switch issues.

Prior to the maintainer's arrival, the dispatcher may give the train crew permission to hand throw the switch. When this occurs, the train will approach the switch at a reduced speed. A crew member will then climb down to the ground and align the switch by hand. The train will then get permission from the dispatcher to proceed through the switch. The train will pull forward onto the switch and the crew member will get back on the train. The train will then continue at a reduced speed until favorable signals are obtained. This process will be repeated for every train that has to hand throw the switch prior the arrival of the maintainer.
